Display options application

I produced a personnal set of display option, color, heading fonts and body text fonts. I saved the setting under a proper name. However DOORS 9.1 do not apply the font choice and size to the objects of the open modules. Only the colour choice. I need also the font (arial) and the sizes.

Tried this out with DOORS 9.1.0.0 - could not verify any problem in setting the font type or font size. All changes were shown, even in a module which was open when modifying the options.

The attached doc shows the font display change screen and an open module with the new fonts after changing. This with 9.1.

Eureka. I found the problem. This is a bad feature of DOORS 9.1.

The font setting are only applicable to the locale language indicated in the drop down menu of the option display window. If an attribute of a module uses other locale or language, the setting will not apply the font selection and even its size selection.

In DOORS 9.1, attribute definition includes the selection of a font, or as default, uses a locale setting from the OS. In Canada the windows family of OS utilises English(Canada) or French(Canada) as local setting. The DOORS 9.1 database assume English(US) in the in the drop down menu of the option display window. So only the attributes that are defined using this language will apply the font selection of the display setting. Of course this language is selectable but this solves partially the problem.

In our company (CAE of Montréal) there are 1200 users, each having its own preference for its OS locale parameters. Mainly 5 locale languages setting are used: English US, UK, Canada and French Canada, France. So it comes up that a module view or a print out will appears differently from a user to an other.

In DOORS 9.1 it was a bad idea to let attribute definition be dependent of a font selection or the OS local parameters. This is my opinion. There is nothing I can do for now. Sincerely yours,

Marc-Alain,

I had a similar problem where text in columns that were derived from other modules (via attribute DXL) were displayed in the original font rather than my chosen display font. Your comment got me thinking and I think I have found a way around this problem.

1. Bring up the DOORS 'Display' options tab.
2. Set the 'Font setting are for...' drop-down to 'Czech' (or whatever language you think may have been used to create the data originally).
NOTE: You do not need to change the 'System' setting.
3. Select the 'Scheme Name' from the list and click on 'Apply' - this should (providing the language setting is correct) change the font used for displaying the relevant data to the one you want.

I think you can apply your chosen Scheme to any language you choose, and even multiple languages by re-running the procedure above.
